There are many reasons why people seek psychotherapy or counselling at some point in their lives. Some are related to recent life events such as relationship difficulties, stress at work or home, bereavement, loss, separation, major change in circumstances, or recent traumatic events. Others may be more enduring such as symptoms of depression or anxiety which have become a serious concern, low self-esteem, a lack of confidence, and long term symptoms of post-traumatic stress. Sometimes people want to deal with the impact of childhood emotional, physical or sexual abuse or a chaotic and troubled family history.
And sometimes people don't know what's wrong, just that they feel unhappy, frustrated and disappointed and want greater self-understanding, inner contentment and sense of freedom in their lives.
Therapy involves taking action and while at times it can be difficult and painful it can be a healing, rewarding and freeing experience. I offer a number of different therapeutic approaches depending on the circumstances of the people I am working with. It's worth taking some time to think about what you want from psychotherapy or counselling and what will help you to achieve this. Please phone or send me an email if you have questions about what you read or are interested in further information.
